Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Intro
Where Boys Fear to Tread
> Tonight, Tonight
BC: Thanks a lot, hi.
Iha: How’s everybody doing?
BC: It's very nice to be back here with you. You know, we were supposed to come here on Lollapalooza but they canceled it...but that wasn’t our fault. (pretentious voice) I mean really, what is Lollapalooza anyway? It's not an alternative festival anymore, is it really?
Iha: (pretentious voice) I don't know. (normal voice) How's your finger doing? Billy cut his finger today.
BC: So uh, we send this song out to you out there, way up there. James, do you know what today is?
Iha: It's the greatest day.
> Planet of the Apes clip
> Thru the Eyes of Ruby
BC: Thank you.
BC: [tape flip] ...and I didn’t see that one too well but, heh, sorry. Um, anyway. Like to send this song out to the Utah Jazz and their quest for a championship.
BC: This is the year it all is gonna come together.
(40 seconds pass in silence, circus tape usually kicks in much faster)
BC: Thank you, heh heh.
Dennis Frog: (short screaming/groaning noise)
Circus tape (abandoned quickly - seems like it wasn’t working right - it’s barely audible, doesn’t start at the beginning and is stopped after “and welcome”)
(BC over tape: A little late, Dennis.)
Dennis Frog: (screams, then loops the scream to repeat a few times)
Iha: (screams twice over Dennis’s loop)
Bullet with Butterfly Wings
> Fuck You
Porcelina of the Vast Oceans / Beautiful
Iha: Hey, thanks a lot. Ladies and gentlemen...to the stage...Jimmy Frog, all the way from Milwaukee. His brother on the keyboards, Dennis Frog. Yes, from Milwaukee, Milwaukee's best.
D’arcy: This - this is a song...
D’arcy: ...you can dance to. I wanna dedicate this song to those three dancin’ fools up there, they're all by themselves up there, I don’t think they’re still there, I don’t see them but they’ve been dancing all night. Dancin’ people up there.
Iha: We encourage you to just....
D’arcy: Can’t see ‘em now but....
Iha: I know, get funky on this next song.
D’arcy: Can we get a spotlight over there? Spotlight.
BC: I think you should stand up on the other one.
D’arcy: Oh yeah, go over there.
BC: No, you!
D’arcy: Me?, no. (crowd cheering)
Iha: This is unheard of, unheard of.
D’arcy: I can't do that, I gotta sing!
D’arcy: I gotta sing.
BC: Put the mic stand up there.
Iha: Still, still, let’s have some fun up there. We put everything into our show. If spectacle is what you want, we give you spectacle. (loud crowd cheering) I want you....
D’arcy: Oh god! I'm afraid of heights so I hope you appreciate this.
Iha: Heh heh heh. This is uh, quite a story for us. Yes, the lighter is appropriate on this song.
BC: Anyway, we'd like to dedicate this song to all the wonderful people we met today at the mall.
Iha: Yes, at the mall.
BC: Not that malls are any indication but I have to say it was a nice mall and the people we met in the mall were nice people. And now, let us begin.
1979 (with Jimmy Flemion)
Iha: Alright, I know you’re thinking, how are we gonna top that? Heh. That was crazy. But now, instead of dancing, we will just simply rock.
(Iha: Yeah! Come on, come on, Cosmo. Yeah, we’re [unintelligible] in the old Utah. I’m Utah, Utah. I hope you have a good time tonight. I hope you have a real fuckin’ good time tonight. Aaaahhh!! Aaah! Ow! I’m going crazy! Going fuckin’ crazy [unintelligible]! I can’t take it anymore! Aaah! Damn! Oh, that shit’s hot. Matt “Cosmo” Walker on the drums. From Winnetka, Matt Walker! Actually, it’s a little fast. Yeah. Alright, alright. Play it. Oh, heh heh, on the bass guitar, the lady of the bass, Ms. D’Arcy Wretzky, yeah. On the vocals, vocals and guitar, BC Billy Corgan, put ‘em up, put ‘em up. (Billy starts soloing) Yeah, play that wack ass blues shit. Unh. Damn. We’re from Chicago, we gotta play the blues. (Billy solos for a bit, then stops) And I’m your most [unintelligible] steady James. And uh, don’t worry, we will keep rocking any moment.)
Iha: Let’s rock.
Iha: Hey, thanks a lot, thanks a lot everybody. You’ve been super cool.
Hey Bulldog (tease - Dennis Frog plays the riff twice)
BC: Thank you very much. We really appreciate your love and support, we’ve had a, you know, an interesting year and - and thank you so much for still being here for us and supporting us so much.
Iha: You rock! More importantly....
BC: God bless you, god bless you, thank you.
BC: Ethan, lights please? Alright, check it out, all you people, all you people up there? You totally rule 'cause you stuck it out to the end, see all these people streamin’ back in because they thought the show was over?
Iha: Heh, come back, come back. Wait, we - we see your sign about the drummer but we - we got one, heh. That sign. We know you play drums.
BC: You play drums? Let this guy come up here. Come on up.
Iha: Pfft, (scoffs), oh ho, we got a drummer up here.
BC: Let this young man up here. This man right here with the green shirt, come on up. Come on up, join the melee! Now, now...you represent most of Salt Lake City.
Iha: This man represents you.
BC: This young man here. This is Ian, he's a member of your community. Now, he's been holding up a sign the whole show, "I play drums", there it is right there. Now we will see if Ian can actually play drums, we will give him the Pumpkin vote, go ahead.
Iha: What song do you wanna...?
BC: And he wants to play Soma.
Iha: Alright. Now just remember, it's been a while since we played this song so...he may know this song but....
BC: But you know what, I don't wanna play Soma. Drum solo! Ian, take it.
> Soma (abandoned right before lyrics start)
BC: You know what? I hate to tell you this, Ian: not only do I not like the drums, I don't like drummers and you're fired. Get off my stage. We're in a drum firing mood, I'm sorry.
Iha: In fact, we’ll now be playing the rest of the set with no more drums. Just imagine the rhythm in your head.
BC: How about a round of nice applause for Ian for being a good sport?
Iha: A fine drummer, if anyone needs a drummer in town, seek them out over there. Thank you, Ian.
BC: See, what Ian doesn't know is we've only played with two drummers, one was Jimmy and Matt is the second drummer that we've ever played with and what Ian doesn't know is both of ‘em had to have surgical bionic (laughing) implants in their shoulders.
Iha: Yes, that is true, that is very true.
BC: And only because they were willing to go through this painful operation...can they do these songs.
Iha: These people also had to have plastic surgery done to their faces to fit what we thought a drummer might look like. As painful as it sounds, these people now are launched into the one of the hugest careers in music ever! (Billy starts intro feedback for Bodies) I'm just kidding!
> Silverfuck / Space Jam
BC: Thank you, thank you, thank you, (high pitched) thank you!
Farewell and Goodnight (with Jimmy Flemion singing Jimmy C.’s part, played without piano)
(BC over Iha intro strumming: This is our last song, as you can probably tell. We’d like to thank you one more time for being the best. We’d like to thank Grant Lee Buffalo for the mellifluous tones. Grant Lee Buffalo. Most of all though, we’d like to thank your parents...whom without you would not be here. Please tell your parents that we thank them for having you.)
(Jimmy Frog barks like a dog through the instrumental after the first chorus and Billy joins in.
D’arcy: Get the cane. The dog cannot sing.
Jimmy Frog: Heh heh heh.
D’arcy: He sings fastly.)
(below is over guitar outro)
BC: Thank you, god bless you.
D’arcy: Thank you, goodnight.
Jimmy Frog: Good night.
D’arcy: No really, we mean it.
Iha: Goodnight everybody, bye, thanks, thanks a lot. (Iha stops playing)
BC: (high pitched vocalizing) (normal voice) Goodbye. Bye!
