Story from the SPLRA team:
"Before the Rubano Tapes Vol. 1 was announced this show was not known about. This new information led the SPLRA team to make a post about the show in a O'Cayz forum, and it just so happened that someone commented saying they had attended with their friend who had actually recorded it. Through this lead we managed to get ahold of the taper who agreed to allow us to transfer the show. A massive thank you to our taper Matthew Rogers for recording this and allowing us to do a fresh transfer of his tape. Thank you to Captain Fireball for his transfer and to Ted Mattes for helping coordinate and deliver."
A special message from our taper, Matthew Rogers:
"While having a fun gig booking bands at the student union of UW-Madison, I popped in a demo tape by a band called the 'Smashing Pumpkins.' It was a visceral experience, the equivalent of a meteor exploding overhead that lighted the way home. I had to book them there and see them as often as I could. Not long afterward, they were playing down the street at the O'Cayz Corral bar. I fired my roommates up for the show and we got there early and drank 5 pitchers of Blatz beer in our excitement. I had decided to tape this show and somehow managed to record it on my Sony Walkman with an external lavalier microphone on the lapel of my jacket. Against all odds, it came out quite well I think and reflects a golden age in the history of the Smashing Pumpkins. I hope you enjoy it."
