Corgan: Sons and daughters, people of Earth, good evening. How's everybody doing, you all alright?
Ava Adore
Glass and the Ghost Children
I Am One During rant, Corgan: Through eyes we penetrate. Through the years we confiscate. Yes, we are here to take back the motherfucking rock and roll. That's right. Across the dusk of time, inside the child's mind, you will find, we leave nothing behind. This story is the same story that's been told over and over and over and over again. Attack, attack, attack, attack, attack! Destroy. Like human atom bombs, we shall explode inside your every soul. That's right, that's right, that's right. You're in here now, there's no escape, you're in here now, there's no escape, it's too late, there's no escape. It's very, very, very, very...it's getting late. Y2K my fucking ass. The revolution is not going to be inside your motherfucking computer, it's going to be in your heart. All voices equal, all voices equal. We are the machines, we speak this dream, we are the machines, we are the machines of God.
Rock On
Zero
Corgan: We'd like to thank everybody we saw today, both in Sacramento and San Jose. You guys rule. You gave us a lot of love today, we hope we gave you some back. So all the people in a lot of the other cities we're going to are saying, why the fuck are you playing there? And I say, why the fuck not? Heh, that's right. We'd now like to play you a song from our failed Adore album, heh, hope you enjoy it.
To Sheila
Corgan: Thank you very much, thank you very much. Ladies and gentleman, for our last, our last song, we would like to attempt a very dangerous, a very dangerous song. We do not suggest you try this song at home unless accompanied by a guardian, someone who who can drive you to the hospital. We present to you, the Cherub Rock.
Cherub Rock
(encore break) Iha: Hello, how are you guys doing? Is it really hot out there? At this time, on drums and guitar, Mr. Jimmy Chamberlin. On guitar and lead vocals, Mr. Billy Corgan. On bass guitar, Ms. Melissa Auf Der Maur. Now, we go back.
1979 (acoustic)
Corgan: We know everyone's very hot and sweaty. We thank you, we thank you. Can you put the lights up a little bit, so we can see everybody. Ah, there you are, there you are. We're so old that we can't see very far or hear very well. Except Melissa, she's not old. She has a bright future in rock, I predict. I predict our light is diminishing fast. The three of us, too many miles there.
Join Together
Corgan: Thank you very much, thank you very much, thank you very much.
Iha: Thank a lot, good night.
Intermission 2...Iha: It's so fucking hot!
I of the Mourning
Bullet with Butterfly Wings (abandons after Corgan botches lyrics)
Corgan: I just fucked up the words. Hold on, stop. I fucked up the words. [crowd cheers] Alright, that's it, that's the end of the show. We can't play that song. Alright, try one more time. [Chamberlin begins drumming] Wait, wait. [Chamberlin stops] No, no, we'll do it the old school way.
Bullet with Butterfly Wings
Corgan: You guys totally fucking rock.
Iha: Thanks a lot.
Corgan: God bless you.
Iha: Thanks a lot.
Corgan, God bless you, thank you.
Iha: Thanks a lot.
Intermission 3...
X.Y.U. During rant, Corgan: Little Red Riding Hood, was riding her curds of whey (?). She was going to grandma's house. Kerplunk, kerplook, kerplunk, kerplook. Now, grandma had warned Little Red Riding Hood of a big bad bear. Boo! She said [Corgan in high pitched voice] Little Red Riding Hood, be careful of riding into the forest, you'll never know what you're going to find. [Corgan back to regular voice] So, Little Red Riding Hood was riding that pony. Riding that pony, riding that pony, and she came upon a fork in the road. Hold on, shh! [band stops playing] It's hard to tell a story you loud metal fucks. I want you to play, just not that loud. [band resumes, quieter] There you go. And so Little Red Riding Hood came to a fork in the road, and she didn't know which way to go. Little did she know that grandma's house was to the right [Corgan gesticulating], which would be your left..right...no, left. Anyway, and she made the wrong turn and little did Little Red Riding Hood know that she was going to the big bear's house. That's right. She knocked upon that door. [To band] God damn, you guys are fucking loud! ...trying to tell a story. [Chamberlin drums louder, for a moment] These people want to hear a story. [Crowd cheers] So anyway, she knocked upon that door and... [Corgan in animated deeper voice] Who's there? [Corgan in high pitch] Little Red Riding Hood, come to pick up her cherries. Let me in. [Corgan, back in deeper voice] Come on in, said the bear, I've got something I want to show you. [Corgan back to regular voice] And right about now, your curiosity may be getting the best of you. I stood in the line for 14, 16 hours to get these tickets. I stole money to get these tickets. I'm hot and sweaty and some guy I do not know is pressing against me. At least tell the end of the story because it would really be unfair to have gone through all this trouble to get out here and see the show and not know the end of the story and then find out on the Internet that I told the story to some other unappreciative crowd that is not as good as you are. [Crowd cheers] Because you're like that. [Corgan in bear voice] Little Red Riding Hood, come here. I've got something I want to show to you. I said, it's big and it's loud, it's right here. Now close your eyes. You're going to get a big surprise. [Corgan back to regular voice] OK shh, here's the dramatic part. SO when Little Red Riding Hood opened her eyes, what did she behold? What is it? It's a 6ft4 guy playing lead fucking guitar. We all know Little Red Riding Hood cannot be satisfied. That's it, these hot and sweaty people are not impressed by the end of the story. You dirty fucking people thought I was going into some sort of sexually explicit moment there. I'm very embarassed by you. I thought our crowds were a step above your normal, Britney Spears' boob-worshipping crowds. We thought you would want the intellectual ending. Oh, you want the sexual ending? Oh, well, there is none. OK, that's the end of the concert, thank you very much.
[Iha plays few notes]
Corgan: James, what are you doing? I thought you were done with evil riffs, I thought you've sworn off evil riffs? [to crowd] Are you sure, are you really sure? I'm not really convinced.
Iha: What do you people want? Rock and roll, or do you want to hear... I believe there is an ending to this song. What you will get out of it is so painful to us. Personally it is to me, quite a burden. So I want to hear, give a very loud noise, so we can endure this gargantuan rock riff. [crowd cheers] That's fine, a first entry noise. Can I get another?
Corgan: That's not going to fly with me, that's not going to work. You're going to have to do better than that, James Iha. These people are counting on you, right about now.
Iha: Well, the jokes are old, the riffs are stale. What can I do?
Corgan: Don't you understand? These people don't want riffs, they want water.
Iha: Well, I've got a couple Crystal Geysers...
Corgan: James, James, just let it go. We just can't do it anymore, that's it. We can't go back in time, James. You're not 25 anymore, the world is no longer enthralled with grunge. It's over, give it up, buddy. Alright, alright, everything's going to be...alright. One more time, one more time, we're going to try and blow your mind. Everything's going to be alright. Now for our last number of the evening, and I truly mean that this time, for our last number, our last number...no, this is no longer a gimmick, this is the end, this is the end. Everything's going to be alright, don't be afraid, everything's going to be alright. This song we're going to play for you, doesn't have any words. We don't really know how it goes, we just make up words as we go along. Your participation is a necessary element of this song, or it'll collapse upon itself and embarass us and you will leave feeling that you've been jipped out because we are not a professional rock band. You understand what I'm saying? Now when we get to the chorus, and it will be very obvious that is the chrous, we need you to sing it back to us. And that's very, very important, then everything's going to be alright. [Corgan begins singing...]
We Love You We're going to get so high, we're going to reach to the sky, everybody's going to know, you don't fuck with us here. There's nobody that knows show business like us. That's right. Across the hands of time, we blister (?) the fragile eggshell mind. We ask Jim Morrison to come down and grant us some words, because I am the vampire king and I can do anything. Alright. Do you feel alright? Do you feel alright? Do you feel alright? Do you feel alright? We love you. We love you. We love you. Yes, as you can see, we do not not know what we are doing and it's getting very scary and I'm afraid I'm about to fail and I do not like to fail. Because I am Will personified, because I am William, that's right, William. We love you, we love you, we love you. Yes that's right, for each and every one of you, for the beautiful, human souls that you are. And for once in my life I am not bullshitting you. We love you...
Corgan: That truly is the end of the loving for you. Thank you very much, for an amazing concert. Thank you for going through the trouble of showing us your love, we hope, in our own commercial rock star way, we are showing you our love. Don't forget, don't forget, don't forget, in April or May, we are going to come back to play a big rock show. It will be the same jokes and the same songs, but in a different order.
Iha: Woo, groovy. Alright everybody, thanks a lot. We appreciate you coming out and staying for all the rock. You guys have been great. [undecipherable, foreign language?]
