Fuck You
“Thank you for participating” tape
> Tonight, Tonight
By Starlight
BC: Hello. Thank you very much for coming out here to lovely Lakeland. How many people came from Orlando? Alright, I’ll tell you the story of what happened. We were supposed to play where the Magic play, the O-rena. And we were gonna play a show there and then they called us up and they said, “Oh yeah, by the way, there’s a basketball game that night, you can’t play here that day.” So the choice was to either play here or not play at all so.... We know a lot of you came a long way, we appreciate it very much, we hope you have a good time.
Today
> Planet of the Apes clip
> Thru the Eyes of Ruby
Iha: Thanks.
Cherub Rock (abandoned after one drum roll)
BC: Hold on there, Matt. I’m gettin’ old. We would now like to play you a song from our second album. It is...the Cherub Rock.
Cherub Rock
BC: Thanks a lot.
Galapogos (acoustic)
Beautiful (acoustic)
Disarm (acoustic)
Circus tape
> Bullet with Butterfly Wings (abandoned - Billy screws up 1st line and laughs through the 2nd)
BC: Aw stop, that was really bad. I fucked up.
Circus tape
> Bullet with Butterfly Wings
Muzzle
Porcelina of the Vast Oceans
> Rocket (tease)
[encore break]
Iha: Ladies and gentlemen, we are now going to enter the classic Pumpkins. They go back in time, a time when there was grunge rock, when things were so [unintelligible word]. When we were still losers.
Rhinoceros (tease - Billy and Iha play quietly during Siva intro, Iha sings “she knows” a few times)
> Siva
BC: Thank you.
Drown
> Hummer (tease - about 40 seconds instrumental)
BC: Thank you.
[encore break]
Iha: Ladies and gentlemen, I have to admit, I feel crazy! Crazy enough to dance...which leads us to our next segment of our show. We have a special guest with us to help us with the next dancing segment of our show. This man, this man has been away from the stage for five long years. This man, writer of such hits as What’s Goin’ On?, Signed and Sealed and Delivered, The Dark Side of Town, you know who I’m talkin’ about, all the way from Milwaukee, ladies and gentlemen, of The Frogs, Jimmy Frog!
unknown tease (Billy starts riff and entire band joins in)
(Iha: Yeah! Come on!!!! Come on, you people! I don’t came here to fuck yourself to completion, Orlando. I want you people to fuckin’ rock tonight! Yeah! I feel success like I’m not even playin’! Say! ...
Jimmy Frog (singing): This town....)
Iha: Wow, wow.
BC: We cannot get the green angel to sing.
Iha: Anyways, so that’s Jimmy Frog.
Jimmy Frog (off mic): We should play it again.
Iha: Yep. Alright, one more time and with inspiration.
unknown tease (Matt counts in and band plays)
(Jimmy Frog: Classic Dave, boomin’ your stereo. Classic Dave stepped on your shoes. Classic Dave, make an example of. Classic Dave....) (ed: guessing on a lot of this)
BC: Thank you green angel, that was very potent. Did you introduce everybody?
Iha: No, no, okay, so...aight, I wasn’t used to that, that wasn’t part of the program. So tomorrow we’ll do an Oasis song. Um, on the keyboards, heh heh, just kidding, just kidding.
Wonderwall (tease - Iha sings the first 2 words)
Iha: (singing) “Today is....” (speaking) Uh, on the keyboards, his brother, Dennis Frog. Dennis Frog, everybody. He’s a real, nice, warm....kind of a boss.
BC: Known in England as “The Rat.”
Iha: What?
BC: Known in England as “The Rat.”
Iha: Known in England (British accent) as “The Rat.” “No one knows where he comes from, he is ‘The Rat.’” (normal) Okay, and on - on the drums, fuckin’, you know, things you hit, heh, I don’t know what they’re called. I hate the drums myself but you gotta have ‘em. Matt “Cosmo” Walker! Come on, stand up! This is not part of the program, you gotta stand up! Alright! And now we’ll continue on...with the program.
BC: Wait a second. You know, we’ve been in many cities this year.
Iha: A thous - a million faces and we’ve rocked them all.
BC: Now, this is not a big place. It’s actually a fairly small place. Now, this is normally the part of the show where we invite people on stage to dance. However, since this is - this is an arena rock moment, I’m going to ask you for an arena rock response. Now, we think we have played fairly well this evening. So you need to convince us that you deserve to dance.
Iha: That sounds a bit dubious.
BC: Jimmy, Jimmy! Pick the dancers. (Matt starts a beat, Dennis and eventually Billy play over it) Oh yeah! Kickin’ it.
Iha: Ohhh, ohhh.
BC: Who shall dance?
Iha: Who shall dance?
BC: Who shall the green angel pick? Who shall dance? Oh yeah! Alright, Walker, something a little more disco beat, yes. (Matt changes the beat)
Iha: Oh yeah! Come on, you fuckin’ people! Don’t be pathetic! Fuckin’ at the same son of a bitch here! The beautiful people, yeah! Alright! Come on!
BC: (sort of scatting along to the beat for 15 seconds)
Iha: [unintelligible under Billy singing] Ow!!! We’ve got scat! Ow!!! Alright, alright! The dancers have been chosen. Yes? The dancers have been chosen. (Matt stops) Alright, the dancers have been chosen. I warn you that the choosing process is often times flawed...
BC: Okay.
Iha: ...so we may get psychopaths on stage...
BC: Alright.
Iha: ...as part of the program.
BC: Now it’s time, now it’s time to get to know our psychotic - I mean, our dancers. Well, this young lady, the first thing she asked me when she got on stage was, she wanted to know if I wanted to ride her horse. I don’t know what the fuck that means. Ride the horse, is that some kind of weird Florida term for doin’ some drugs or what? What’s your name and where are you from?
Girl #1: I’m Terri Mesa from Key Largo, Florida, Florida Keys. Woo!!
Iha: What? Hey, I don’t give a shit.
Girl #1: And it’s my sister’s horse. That’s her, right there!
Iha: Yeah.
BC: Your sister is Loretta Lynn?
Iha: Heh heh.
BC: Who are you and where are you from?
Girl #2: Lori from Lakeland.
Iha: Lakeland.
Girl #3: I’m Heather from Lakeland, I gotta say what’s up, Megan?! Woo!!
Iha: Alright, stop right there.
BC: You sure you can dance with these nails? I bet you’re not a typist, I don’t know. Who are you and where are you from?
Guy #1: I’m Mike from St. Cloud, hey Marie, ha!
Iha: Alright, calm down, calm the fuck down.
Guy #2: CHARLES FROM OCALA, FLORIDA!
Iha: Alright.
BC: Wow, you people - you people need some drugs to calm you down. Normally the people we get up to dance, they’re fresh out of the grave but you people, you’ve got a lot of caffeine in you, it’s good to see. James, would you like to tell everyone the rules for our dancers?
Iha: Yes, yes, we have two rules for our dancers, please listen up. Do not touch us and do not touch our shit. Alright. If you do - if you do, you will suffer the consequences of being immediately thrown into a vat of Zagnuts, yes. Alright! Now we will continue on. For those of you who cannot dance with us on stage, we encourage you to dance on stage but in your mind. Yes, that’s right. Any of you have read any philosophy will know what that means.
BC: Well, let’s dance...together.
1979
> Rumble (tease - Billy plays a little and Matt joins in, they keep playing while Iha talks)
Iha: Yeah. Let’s say hello. Let’s have a hand for Link Wray. Everybody, Rumble. Let’s have a hand for our somewhat off center dancers. Wasn’t what I call dancing but then, I’ve never been to Lakeland before so um, but they, it seemed like a fine sort of effort on their part. Any of you fans of Link Wray? Anybody fans of Dick Dale, surf music? Come on, people, don’t you know your root music? Well, I wouldn’t call it roots music but um...in fact, I don’t know what I’m talking about but we’ll just keep on rockin’. Yes. Thank you, I love you too.
BC: We share the water.
Iha: Just don’t throw it back at us.
BC: Well.... Thank you very much for coming, hope you had a good time. We’ll say our goodbyes now. You never know when those damn Pumpkins are gonna break up, so....
Iha: So much controversy surrounding us.
BC: Today we were fighting over a watermelon, it was unbelievable.
Iha: Do you have anything else to say? Just say it, right now. Whatever you - whatever you’re stressed out, whatever you’re angry about, whatever you’re mad about, I wanna hear it right fuckin’ now! (Billy starts X.Y.U.) I’m mad as hell and I can’t take it!
X.Y.U.
> Smoke on the Water (tease - jammed on during the silent portion before “in the eyes of the jackal...”)
> Paranoid (tease - band goes into song during the feedback part at end of X.Y.U.)
(BC: Finished with my woman ‘cause she couldn’t help me with my mind. Thank you.)
