Lou from ECW: Hey Philadelphia, how’s it going tonight? I-I gotta say, I gotta say, I’ve known all the guys and gals in the Smashing Pumpkins for a really long time. And it’s not every day they come out and do an acoustic set like this. So as much as you’re honored, I’m honored to be part of this tonight. So this is how it’s gonna work. These guys are gonna come out for a little while, they’re gonna play some great songs, which I’m sure all of Philadelphia since, ‘cause you’re such a great city, will enjoy. They’re gonna take a very, very, very brief intermission and they’re gonna come back with their electric set. So it’s my honor and my privilege to bring to Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love, the Smashing Pumpkins. Lou from ECW: Despite the fact that I wasn’t on the bill tonight or advertised to be here, because, I mean, lord knows if I was advertised to be here tonight, this place would be sold out. Right? I mean, am I right? I mean, the Smashing Pumpkins couldn’t even sell out this place, but I could. But, but, regardless of all that, tonight I’m still gonna entertain you by reading some poetry that I wrote, this is my original poetry. I wrote it back in nine - in, uh, 1861, I think, so.... Let’s everybody, let’s everybody calm down a little bit. Uh, this poem is called “The Fish, the Man and the Spirit” and, and this is to a fish. “You strange, astonished-looking, angle-faced....”
Guy in crowd: Show your tits!
Lou: You know what? Seriously, I-I’m an artist, okay? I’m an artist. So if you guys could show me a little respect, that, that would be fantastic. Thank you. ... Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, I’m gonna start over. This poem is called “The Fish, the Man and the Spirit” and this is to a fish. “You strange, astonished-looking, angle-faced, dreary-mouthed, gaping wretches of the sea. Gulping salt water, ever - ” Seriously, you guys over there, you’re way too loud, okay? I’m an artist, I need to concentrate. I wrote this stuff back in the 1800s, it’s amazing I’m still alive to read it, and you guys should feel privileged to hear it, okay? So...I’ll start over. This poem is called “The Fish, the Man and the Spirit” and this is, this is to a fish. “You strange, astonished-looking, angle-faced, dreary-mouthed, gaping wretches of the sea. Gulping salt water, everlastingly.” Get the hell off? (audience cheers loudly) Okay, I’ve tried to do this three times now, okay? Alright, so, unless you guys are gonna be quiet, I’m gonna leave. (audience screams) Wait...do you guys actually want me to leave and be deprived of this great work? (audience cheers) You really want me to leave? (audience cheers) Alright, screw all of you, I don’t need this. (30 seconds pass) Alright, alright, hold on. Okay, hey, hey, hey. Alright, I’m sorry. I got, I overreacted a little bit, uh, I’m very passionate about my work. I-I probably offended the Smashing Pumpkins. So, so, what I’ll do, what I’ll do...(sputters)...can I make amends with you people? Okay. I’m gonna, I’m gonna start another longer poem. Are you kidding me, you people are this disrespectful? Alright, alright, you know what? I-I’m gonna start a really, really long poem and there’s nothing anybody can do to stop me. Let’s see, we got Robert Browning in here, “Love Among the Ruins...” Hey, don’t chant for Billy, don’t chant for anybody, okay? You guys, you guys keep the Billy chants up, I’m really gonna leave. (crowd chants for Billy) Alright, you guys can all go to hell with Billy. Thank you, good night.
