Lou from ECW: Hey Philadelphia, how’s it going tonight? I-I gotta say, I gotta say, I’ve known all the guys and gals in the Smashing Pumpkins for a really long time. And it’s not every day they come out and do an acoustic set like this. So as much as you’re honored, I’m honored to be part of this tonight. So this is how it’s gonna work. These guys are gonna come out for a little while, they’re gonna play some great songs, which I’m sure all of Philadelphia since, ‘cause you’re such a great city, will enjoy. They’re gonna take a very, very, very brief intermission and they’re gonna come back with their electric set. So it’s my honor and my privilege to bring to Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love, the Smashing Pumpkins. (lots of cheering)
BC: Alright.
Rotten Apples (stopped almost immediately)
BC: Wrong key.
Rotten Apples (Billy 12-string w/Lisa)
BC: Thank you.
Disarm (Billy acoustic w/Lisa)
1979 (Billy solo acoustic)
BC: Thank you.
Some girl in crowd: You’re hot!
BC: Ah, so are you. Relatives. Hello relatives. (laughs) How’s everybody doing tonight, you okay? Since, uh, we were able to play four shows here in Philadelphia, we wanted to do something a little different tonight. Some special...hot rock action. And, uh, we hope you have a good time, we hope you enjoy the show. Playing some songs we don’t normally play, a few special things tonight, so.... Of course, uh, we’re not really sure why we’re, why we are rewarding you for being the last people to buy tickets but that’s neither here nor there.
Winterlong (Billy acoustic w/Lisa)
(rest of band comes onstage)
BC: Okay, Jimmy.
Blue Skies Bring Tears (acoustic)
BC: Thank you.
Drown (acoustic)
BC: Alriiight. Alright.
Home (acoustic)
Rocket (acoustic)
Pomp and Circumstances (acoustic)
BC: Hey, thank you very much. We’ll come back out in a few minutes and rock your socks off.
[set break]
Lou from ECW: Despite the fact that I wasn’t on the bill tonight or advertised to be here, because, I mean, lord knows if I was advertised to be here tonight, this place would be sold out. Right? I mean, am I right? I mean, the Smashing Pumpkins couldn’t even sell out this place, but I could. But, but, regardless of all that, tonight I’m still gonna entertain you by reading some poetry that I wrote, this is my original poetry. I wrote it back in nine - in, uh, 1861, I think, so.... Let’s everybody, let’s everybody calm down a little bit. Uh, this poem is called “The Fish, the Man and the Spirit” and, and this is to a fish. “You strange, astonished-looking, angle-faced....”
Guy in crowd: Show your tits!
Lou: You know what? Seriously, I-I’m an artist, okay? I’m an artist. So if you guys could show me a little respect, that, that would be fantastic. Thank you. ... Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, I’m gonna start over. This poem is called “The Fish, the Man and the Spirit” and this is to a fish. “You strange, astonished-looking, angle-faced, dreary-mouthed, gaping wretches of the sea. Gulping salt water, ever - ” Seriously, you guys over there, you’re way too loud, okay? I’m an artist, I need to concentrate. I wrote this stuff back in the 1800s, it’s amazing I’m still alive to read it, and you guys should feel privileged to hear it, okay? So...I’ll start over. This poem is called “The Fish, the Man and the Spirit” and this is, this is to a fish. “You strange, astonished-looking, angle-faced, dreary-mouthed, gaping wretches of the sea. Gulping salt water, everlastingly.” Get the hell off? (audience cheers loudly) Okay, I’ve tried to do this three times now, okay? Alright, so, unless you guys are gonna be quiet, I’m gonna leave. (audience screams) Wait...do you guys actually want me to leave and be deprived of this great work? (audience cheers) You really want me to leave? (audience cheers) Alright, screw all of you, I don’t need this. (30 seconds pass) Alright, alright, hold on. Okay, hey, hey, hey. Alright, I’m sorry. I got, I overreacted a little bit, uh, I’m very passionate about my work. I-I probably offended the Smashing Pumpkins. So, so, what I’ll do, what I’ll do...(sputters)...can I make amends with you people? Okay. I’m gonna, I’m gonna start another longer poem. Are you kidding me, you people are this disrespectful? Alright, alright, you know what? I-I’m gonna start a really, really long poem and there’s nothing anybody can do to stop me. Let’s see, we got Robert Browning in here, “Love Among the Ruins...” Hey, don’t chant for Billy, don’t chant for anybody, okay? You guys, you guys keep the Billy chants up, I’m really gonna leave. (crowd chants for Billy) Alright, you guys can all go to hell with Billy. Thank you, good night.

BC: Thank you, thank you. How are y’all doing up there, are you okay up on the balcony? Yeah. We’d like to, uh, we’re about to put out an album in a couple weeks called "Zeitgeist" and, uh, it’s a new album, we’re really proud of it. We hope that when it comes out, you buy it. We all know that you believe in the healing power of music. And of course, its connection to the material sphere. So yeah, check it out, "Zeitgeist", in a couple weeks it’s gonna be out. This is a song from that album, heh heh, called "Zeitgeist" and, uh, sometimes when I get a little lost, I think of this song. I remind myself, you know, no matter where I am, I’m never lost.

(beginning of I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll) BC: Philadelphia, put your hands together one last time for the mighty SP. Let’s celebrate our time together. We’re very grateful to our fans in Philadelphia for coming out for these shows. We love you very much and we thank you and humbly appreciate your love. So we’d like to sing this song together, we know you know this song. (sings) I love rock ‘n’ roll.... ... I said we need you to sing along. We don’t want to hear no non-singing. (sings) I love rock ‘n’ roll.... I don’t think that’s getting it done, Jimmy. We wanna hear from here and from here and from here, heh, some singing! Come on. We’re gonna sing together. (sings) I love rock ‘n’ roll... (band stops playing) Don’t make me get all Youtube on your ass right now. Don’t make me have, uh, don’t make me do some shit that’s gonna end up on Youtube, you know, one of those freakouts, like old school Billy freakout? Don’t make Jeff Schroeder smash his guitar. Don’t make Jimmy Chamberlin come out there and throttle each and every one of you to the ground. Something you don’t know about Ginger? Uma Thurman’s double on Kill Bill, okay, don’t fuck with her. And Lisa over here, she’ll just get all psychic on your ass and just penetrate the depths of your soul. Alright Philadelphia, I ain’t going away easy. I’m not going away easy. You know, I’ve seen a lot of bands do a lot of corny fucking shit, okay, we don’t ask you to do a bunch of corny fucking shit. We ask you to sing along to a Joan Jett song, okay, that’s it. Don’t make me read poetry. (rimshot from Jimmy) Haha. Alright, one last time, I’m serious. (sings) I love rock ‘n’ roll...
(before coda) Thank you very much. Good...night.
[encore break]
